Subject: Missing Military Equipment During Rail Transport to NATO Exercise
- The aim of this memorandum is to inform about the loss of military equipment during the rail transport of Polish Armed Forces assets to the NATO exercise currently taking place in France. The transport was conducted under my supervision from the military base in Poznań to the designated training area near Lyon. The convoy departed on 10 March at 02:00 and arrived at the destination on 16 March at 06:15. The equipment was carried in sealed freight wagons, secured prior to departure and inspected at scheduled stops along the route. Upon unloading at the exercise site, discrepancies in the inventory were identified.
- An immediate inspection of the cargo was carried out by the Polish logistics team. It was established that one of the wagons showed signs of forced entry, including damaged seals and broken locking mechanisms. A preliminary inventory confirmed that several items were missing, including communication devices, protective equipment and two encrypted laptop computers. No weapons or ammunition were reported missing. The incident has been reported through the Polish chain of command and internal procedures have been initiated.
- Due to the sensitive nature of the missing equipment, particularly the laptops containing operational data, the situation poses a potential security risk and requires urgent attention. The Polish side formally requests immediate assistance from the French Military Police in conducting a detailed investigation, securing and reviewing relevant surveillance records, and coordinating with railway authorities along the transport route. Immediate action is essential to prevent any potential misuse of the missing equipment and to ensure the safety and integrity of the ongoing NATO exercise.
