Subject: Report on Mandarin Chinese Language Course
Introduction
This report presents information about the Mandarin Chinese language course I attended and provides my assessment of it. The course was successfully completed at SLP 3 level in accordance with STANAG 6001.
Date and Length of the Course
The course took place from 1 September 2025 to 1 April 2026 and lasted seven months. It was conducted at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom in Shrivenham.
Classes (Size / Quality)
Classes were held in small groups of 4 participants, which allowed for effective learning. The instructors were experienced and well-qualified. Classrooms were well-equipped with modern teaching aids, including computers, audio equipment, and multimedia systems. This had a positive impact on the quality of instruction.
Number of Hours per Week
We had 25 hours of lessons per week, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing practice. In addition, individual consultations with instructors were available, which helped to address specific language problems. The programme was intensive but well-organized.
Accommodation
Accommodation was provided on-site. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Meals were satisfactory.
Facilities
The training centre offered good facilities, including a library, computer rooms, and a sports area, which supported both learning and relaxation.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the course was well organized and effective. It significantly improved my Mandarin Chinese language skills before beginning my duties as a military attaché in China.
