Subject: Report on Participation in Exercise Cambrian Patrol
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to evaluate the participation of our unit, represented by the 7th Pomeranian Territorial Defence Brigade, in Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2025, conducted in the United Kingdom from 3 to 12 October 2025. The exercise, organised by the British Army, is widely regarded as one of the most demanding patrolling tests in NATO and a premier multinational training event.
Description of the Exercise
Exercise Cambrian Patrol is an annual military exercise conducted since 1959 in the Cambrian Mountains and swamp lands of mid-Wales. In 2025, a total of 122 teams, including 34 international patrols, took part in the event.
The exercise is scenario-based and mission-oriented, requiring participants to complete a wide range of tactical tasks, including orders procedure, battlefield casualty drills, navigation, observation and reconnaissance of enemy positions, countering explosive threats, and patrol reporting and radio communications.
Participating units, organised in eight-person patrols, cover a 65-kilometre distance in less than 48 hours, with full equipment, in extremely challenging terrain and weather conditions. Each patrol is assessed continuously, with emphasis placed on leadership, endurance, discipline, and decision-making under pressure. Only a limited number of teams successfully complete the exercise and receive an award.
Benefits for the Unit
Participation in Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2025 brought significant training value to our soldiers. They enhanced their physical endurance and demonstrated increased mental resilience in demanding environmental conditions.
Moreover, the exercise improved their tactical competencies, particularly in small-unit operations, navigation, and command procedures. The requirement to operate under time pressure contributed to better decision-making and coordination within the patrol. In addition, the multinational character of the exercise strengthened interoperability and enabled the exchange of experience with allied forces.
It is also worth noting that the unit, represented by the 7th Pomeranian Territorial Defence Brigade, achieved a bronze medal, confirming a satisfactory level of operational readiness.
Recommendations
To further enhance the training value of the exercise, it is recommended to expand the use of modern battlefield technologies, particularly unmanned aerial systems.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2025 proved to be a highly valuable and demanding training activity. It significantly contributed to the development of key military skills and strengthened cooperation with international partners. Participation in future editions is strongly recommended.
