During the recent escalation in southern Lebanon, peacekeepers from your unit assisted civilians in leaving a village in the UNIFIL area of operations and moving to a safer location.
You have been asked to write a memo to your CO in which you:
- describe the circumstances of the operation and the assistance provided to civilians,
- explain how the operation was conducted and who cooperated in carrying it out,
- comment on the importance of such actions for the safety of civilians and the mission’s objectives.

Subject: Assistance to Civilians During Evacuation Operation
- The purpose of this memorandum is to report on an operation conducted by UNIFIL peacekeepers to assist civilians in moving to safety from a village in the area of operations. The action was carried out following a request from the local municipality due to the deteriorating security situation in the region. Approximately 80 civilians, including children, elderly persons and individuals with disabilities, required assistance in leaving the area.
- The operation was conducted in coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces and in communication with the Israel Defense Forces. Peacekeepers ensured safe passage for the civilians and supervised their movement to a secure location outside the immediate area of risk. The entire operation lasted approximately two and a half hours and was completed without incident.
- Such actions are an important part of the mission’s mandate to protect civilians and support stability in the region. Continued cooperation with local authorities and humanitarian organizations will help ensure that similar operations can be carried out efficiently if required in the future.
