Write a minimum of 120 words on the topic below.

During a routine patrol in your area of responsibility, soldiers from your unit discovered an explosive device hidden on the road surface. You have been asked to write a memo to your CO in which you:

describe how the device was discovered and why it posed a threat,
explain what immediate actions were taken and how the incident affected the patrol,
suggest what measures should be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Subject: Suspicious Object Discovered During Patrol

The purpose of this memorandum is to inform you about an incident that occurred during a routine patrol in our area of responsibility. While moving along a local road, one of the soldiers noticed a suspicious object hidden on the road surface. After closer observation, the patrol suspected that it might be an explosive device deliberately placed to target military vehicles or patrols.
The patrol immediately stopped and secured the area to prevent any accidental detonation. A security cordon was established and civilians in the vicinity were warned to keep a safe distance. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was notified and requested to inspect the device. As a result of the incident, the patrol route had to be temporarily changed and traffic in the area was restricted until the situation was assessed.
In order to reduce the risk of similar threats in the future, it is recommended to increase route surveillance and conduct additional training for patrols on identifying concealed explosive devices. Furthermore, closer cooperation with the local population could help in reporting suspicious activities.
