Sample Discussion
A: There are many reasons for joining the military, and people may have different motivations depending on their situation. Let’s discuss such factors as employment opportunity, money, and lack of routine, and try to decide which of them is the most and the least important. Shall we begin?
B: Yes, that sounds fine. In my opinion, employment opportunity is the most important reason. The military provides stable jobs, especially for people who may have difficulty finding employment in the civilian sector. It also offers free accommodation, meals, uniforms, and military training. Graduates of military studies programmes are assured a position as professional soldiers, which makes a career in the military very appealing. For many individuals, joining the military is a way to secure their future. What do you think?
A: I agree with you. Employment opportunity is definitely a key factor. The military offers long-term stability, professional skills, career development, and even opportunities after leaving the service. However, I think money is also a very important reason. The military provides attractive salaries depending on rank and length of service, as well as various allowances that contribute to financial stability. For example, soldiers participating in foreign missions receive an additional overseas allowance. In addition, they can expect bonuses, extra benefits, and even a pension after 25 years of service. These advantages can strongly motivate people to join.
B: That’s true. Money can be an important factor, especially for those who want to improve their living conditions. However, I would argue that it is slightly less important than employment opportunity, because salary and benefits alone may not be enough to motivate someone to accept the risks associated with military service. We should also remember that military service requires commitment, discipline, and a high level of responsibility.
A: That’s a good point. On the other hand, the lack of routine can also attract some people. Military life is often seen as dynamic and full of challenges. People who do not like monotonous jobs may find this aspect appealing. They may be motivated by adventure, foreign missions, new experiences, and the opportunity to work in different environments.
B: I agree, but I think lack of routine is the least important reason. Although it may be attractive at first, military life also involves discipline, structure, and strict rules. So, in reality, it is not completely free from routine.
A: Exactly. While the military can offer variety, it is still a highly organized environment. Therefore, lack of routine may not be a decisive factor for most people.
B: So, to sum up, we can say that employment opportunity is the most important reason for joining the military because it provides stability and career prospects, while lack of routine is the least important, as it may not fully reflect the reality of military life.
A: I agree. Money is also significant, but it is slightly less important than long-term employment opportunities, and lack of routine seems to be the least influential factor.
B: Yes, I completely agree with that conclusion.
