Subject: Report on UAV Training for Iraqi Security Forces
Introduction
This report provides information about a training event conducted for Iraqi security forces as part of NATO Mission Iraq (NMI).
Training Details
The training took place on 18 April 2026 from 09:00 to 13:30 at a designated training area near the base. A total of 30 Iraqi security personnel participated. The activity was conducted by 6 members of our coalition advisory team, responsible for training and advising local forces.
Trained Tasks and Skills
The main focus of the training was the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in a combat environment. The soldiers were trained in basic drone operation, pre-flight checks, mission planning, and real-time reconnaissance procedures. Emphasis was placed on intelligence gathering and supporting ground units during simulated operational scenarios.
Performance and Feedback
The Iraqi security forces demonstrated good discipline and motivation. Most participants were able to operate the systems correctly after instruction, although some required additional guidance. Overall, the training was assessed positively, and the personnel expressed strong interest in further UAV capability development.
Problems and Recommendation
Minor delays occurred due to limited availability of operational UAV units, which reduced hands-on practice time. For future training, it is recommended to increase the number of available systems and ensure pre-training technical checks to maximise practical training efficiency.
