Subject: Humanitarian assistance operation for displaced civilians

  1. This memorandum aims to inform you about humanitarian assistance activities carried out by our unit between 22 and 27 April in response to the growing number of civilians displaced by ongoing hostilities near the Blue Line in southern Lebanon. Our peacekeepers delivered food supplies, medicines, hygiene kits, medical equipment and bottled water to internally displaced persons sheltering within and outside the UNIFIL area of operations. Support was also provided to local hospitals facing shortages of essential medical supplies and water.
  2. Several difficulties were encountered during the operation. First, security concerns related to ongoing hostilities limited access to certain areas. In addition, transportation delays occurred due to damaged roads and increased civilian traffic. Coordination between humanitarian organisations and military units was occasionally slowed because of communication issues and rapidly changing local needs.
  3. To improve future operations, stronger coordination with local authorities and humanitarian agencies should be established before deployment. Additional transport vehicles and emergency medical supplies should be prepared in advance. Regular communication updates and improved logistical planning would also help ensure faster and more effective humanitarian assistance in future crises.
