Subject: Shooting Range Accident During an International Field Exercise
- This memorandum provides a summary of an incident that occurred on 9th February during a multinational live-fire training session. At approximately 10:40 hrs, a soldier from the Polish contingent was injured while participating in a dynamic rifle shooting drill. Preliminary findings indicate that the accident resulted from improper weapon handling combined with insufficient situational awareness during movement between firing positions.
- The range safety officer immediately halted the training and initiated emergency procedures. Medical personnel stationed at the training area provided first aid, and the injured soldier was evacuated to the nearest military hospital for further examination. According to the attending physician, the injury is serious but not life-threatening. As a consequence of the incident, all live-fire activities were suspended for 24 hours, which caused minor delays in the exercise schedule. An internal inquiry has been launched to establish full accountability.
- In order to prevent similar incidents, it is recommended that stricter supervision be ensured during dynamic drills and that all participants undergo refresher training in weapon safety prior to live-fire exercises. Additionally, range safety procedures should be reviewed and rehearsed at the beginning of each training cycle. Emphasis must be placed on discipline, communication, and adherence to established safety protocols to minimise operational risk in future exercises.
