The United Nations Security Council began discussing a French draft resolution to extend the mandate of the UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) for one year, ahead of a planned gradual withdrawal.
Rada Bezpieczeństwa ONZ rozpoczęła dyskusję na temat francuskiego projektu rezolucji dotyczącego przedłużenia mandatu sił pokojowych ONZ w południowym Libanie (UNIFIL) na rok, w związku z planowanym stopniowym wycofaniem.
The draft resolution includes a clause stating the Council’s intention to work on a withdrawal of UNIFIL with the aim of making the Lebanese Government the sole guarantor of security in southern Lebanon, provided that the Government of Lebanon fully controls all Lebanese territory.
Projekt rezolucji zawiera klauzulę wskazującą na zamiar Rady, żeby pracować nad wycofaniem UNIFIL, mając na celu uczynienie rządu libańskiego jedynym gwarantem bezpieczeństwa w południowym Libanie, pod warunkiem, że rząd Libanu będzie w pełni kontrolował całe terytorium Libanu.
Israel and the United States oppose extending the mandate of the force, which has been deployed in southern Lebanon on the border with Israel since 1978. The fifteen council members are scheduled to vote on the draft resolution on August 25, before the current mandate of UNIFIL expires at the end of the month.
Izrael i Stany Zjednoczone sprzeciwiają się przedłużeniu mandatu sił, które są rozmieszczone w południowym Libanie na granicy z Izraelem od 1978 roku. Piętnastu członków Rady będzie głosować nad projektem rezolucji 25 sierpnia, przed upływem obecnego mandatu UNIFIL z końcem miesiąca.
As of 1 August 2025, UNIFIL’s force consists of a total of 10,509 peacekeepers from 47 troop-contributing countries, including 208 peacekeepers from Poland. In March, UNIFIL and the Lebanese Army signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), renewing the UN peacekeeping mission’s support for both humanitarian and operational demining in the south.
Na dzień 1 sierpnia 2025 roku siły UNIFIL składają się z 10 509 żołnierzy pokojowych z 47 krajów, w tym 208 żołnierzy z Polski. W marcu UNIFIL oraz Armia Libańska podpisały memorandum (MoU), które przedłuża wsparcie misji pokojowej ONZ na rzecz zarówno humanitarnego, jak i operacyjnego usuwania min w południowej części kraju.
