Subject: Security Incident During Patrol Near Adeisse

  1. The aim of this memorandum is to inform you about a security incident which occurred during a planned patrol conducted by UN peacekeepers near the village of Adeisse, close to the Blue Line. While moving through the area, the patrol was approached by local residents who warned the peacekeepers about a potential threat in a nearby house. During the subsequent inspection of the location, the patrol discovered an explosive device connected to a detonating cord.
  2. In response to the threat, the peacekeepers immediately established a security cordon around the area in order to protect both the patrol and nearby civilians. While preparing to inspect another building, a drone that had been hovering above the patrol dropped a grenade approximately 30 metres from their position. A stop-fire request was immediately transmitted to the Israel Defense Forces. Fortunately, no casualties were reported and the patrol continued its mission after the situation stabilized.
  3. In order to reduce the likelihood of similar incidents in the future, it is recommended to improve coordination mechanisms between UNIFIL and the Israel Defense Forces operating in the area. In addition, increased aerial monitoring and enhanced communication procedures during patrols near sensitive locations could help ensure the safety of peacekeepers and local civilians. Continuous risk assessment and timely information sharing remain essential for maintaining stability in the operational area.
