C1 Advanced Report Writing: Study and Work Programme

Example Exam Task

You have just finished a three-week study and work programme in an English-speaking country. You studied English language in the mornings and worked for a local company in the afternoons. The programme organiser has asked you to write a report about your experience. In your report, you should evaluate the programme, explaining which part of the programme was more useful, and suggest changes you would recommend for next year’s programme.

Write your report (220 – 260 words) in an appropriate style.

Overview
This report evaluates my experience during the three-week study and work programme in London, which took place from 1 to 21 July 2025, and provides suggestions for potential improvements. Overall, the programme proved highly beneficial, combining language development with practical work experience.

English Classes
The morning English classes were particularly effective in improving my communication skills. Activities such as group discussions and role-plays encouraged active participation and increased my confidence in using English. The focus on realistic scenarios allowed me to apply classroom learning directly to practical situations, reinforcing my vocabulary and enabling me to communicate more naturally in professional contexts.

Work Placement
During my afternoon placement, I was fully involved in daily operations at a local company. My tasks included attending meetings and corresponding with clients, which provided extensive practical experience and exposure to Business English. I also performed routine administrative tasks, such as filing documents and data entry, which helped me understand office procedures, although these were less engaging than client-focused activities. Overall, the placement significantly enhanced both my professional and language skills.

Recommendations
To improve the programme for future participants, I suggest ensuring that placements consistently offer meaningful tasks and interaction with staff. Additionally, arranging cultural excursions, such as visits to local markets, museums, or historical sites, would provide extra opportunities to practise English while experiencing local culture.

Conclusion
To conclude, the programme provided me with valuable opportunities to improve both my English and professional skills. The combination of morning classes and professional experience allowed me to gain confidence in communication and practical understanding of workplace tasks. With the suggested enhancements, such as more engaging placements and cultural excursions, future participants are likely to benefit even more from this programme.
